ABOUT THE CHAIR:

Ms. Gigi Guzmán is the founder, President and CEO of GITECH, Inc, a Hispanic woman-owned enterprise in continuous operation in the State of Maryland since 1988. GITECH Inc. is a Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) and is recognized by the City of Baltimore and the State of Maryland.
GITECH Inc. has two divisions:  GlobalTech Bilingual Institute and GITECH Bilingual Services are divisions of GITECH Inc. 

GlobalTech Bilingual Institute is a workforce training organization specializing in Hispanic/Latino adults wishing to upgrade their English language skills and job skills to improve their employability.  GlobalTech is approved by the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC) as a Private Career School.  GlobalTech also provides Spanish language training to employers and executives.

GlobalTech Bilingual Institute provides Adult Basic Education, 12 levels of English as a Second Language (ESL) up to the General Educational Development (GED) program, Microsoft Office User training, career programs such as Bilingual Customer Service, Bilingual Secretary, and Office Administration, and a myriad of bilingual programs, courses, and workshops.

GlobalTech Bilingual Institute also provides onsite corporate training offering Spanish language for executives and English language for employees. GlobalTech's "Se Habla Español para Ejecutivos" offers Spanish language training from beginners to advanced, explanations of cultural idiosyncrasies, work ethics, and the opportunity to network with other executives interested in the Latino workforce. GlobalTech also offers "Se Habla Español", which is are networking events at local Latino restaurants for people who love "Español" or simply need it.

GITECH’s Bilingual Services Division offers Spanish-English language services, translations, documentation, bilingual web-site development, e-commerce and e-business, and consulting services in various aspects of Hispanic-Latino workforce and workplace issues.   GITECH Bilingual Services also offers fee-based employee recruitment programs in all types of industries particularly construction, landscape, health, hospitality, and engineering. The company develops corporate and individual employment plans working with employers to identify job applicants while matching job skills to corporate vacancies. Ms.Guzmán is one of the founders of Maryland Hispanic Chamber of Commerce which was established in 1986.  She has been a continuous member since its founding and served as the Chairman of the Board  for four years.  She currently serves as an advisor to Board of Directors.

She also served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Annapolis-based Maryland Chamber of Commerce and currently serves in the Governor’s Workforce Investment Board – Tourism Industry Commission. 

Ms. Guzmán is currently the Chair of the Maryland Hispanic Workforce Council (MdHwC) whose mission is to find solutions to workforce issues and to create opportunities for underutilized communities.  MdHwC’s Vision is to mainstream and empower the historically underutilized communities by assisting employers with their workforce needs. MdHwC focuses on access to employment and work opportunities, education and training, and immigration and citizenship.  MdHwC welcomes employers interested in hiring bilingual job applicants to assist companies to penetrate the Hispanic marketplace.

Ms. Guzmán has received awards from the Small Business Administration, the Maryland Department of Transportation, USHYEE, and other organizations.  She is an active speaker on Hispanic Workforce issues.
